Israel Rose (AR), 7 Iowa Infantry

My 2nd Great Grandfather, Israel G. Rose, noted on the 1910 Census record (Bear Willow TWNP, Logan County, AR) that he served in the Union Army. All the census records I find for him show that he was born abt 1849 in Missouri. When I searched for Civil War records, I came up with the 7th Iowa Infantry. However, when I ordered the records from the National Archives they responded that they could not find records for him. They had a record for Israel Rose born in Iowa (or Ohio...both apear in the records) in 1846. The information I found said that Israel Rose enlisted when he was 18 in 1864. That would mean that he lied about his age (if he was in fact born in 1849). I need some help sorting this out. I appreciate any thoughts or suggestions people might have. Thanks! Allen
