Re: Doyle-Info request on some Jeff. Co. units

I know what you mean -- trying to separate out the volunteer companies organized under the Militia Law from the volunteer companies organized specifically for Confederate service has been causing me grief for years. Damon's willingness to share his transcriptions of the Kie Oldham Papers has been a real godsend in working all this out.

I do know that the companies Jefferson County sent to the 2nd Arkansas Battalion Infantry and to the 2nd Arkansas Battalion Cavalry (later 2nd Arkansas Regiment Cavalry) were Confederate volunteer companies. The Pine Bluff Artillery was, I suspect, but can't prove, organized under the Militia Law, and I think that the Clan McGregor was organized specifically for Confederate service (but once again, can't prove it).

At any rate, I'm surprised there were any young men left in Pine Bluff after all those companies were organized and sent off to the war.
