Damon, this company was the "Gainesville Guards" from Gainesville, Greene County. It was mustered into State service at Camp Cross, at Gainesville, on June 26, 1861, and was mustered into Confederate service at Pocahontas, Arkansas, on July 27, 1861, as Co. E, 5th Regiment Arkansas Infantry (Col. David C. Cross).
The original company officers were:
