Re: Jonas Brewer
Scott, unfortunately there's a big gap in the records of the 3rd Confederate Infantry. Company K was disbanded about April 12, 1862, and its members were assigned to Company I, which in turn was consolidated with Company A a week or two later. There are no rolls from the initial organization of the regiment through December 31, 1862. By the time the rolls pick up again, Private Jonas Brewer and a whole lot of other men are simply gone, with no explanation as to why -- death, discharge, desertion -- there's no record. From secondary sources, it is known that several men died in Kentucky in the Spring of 1862; some were discharged for various disabilities in Mississippi in the Summer of 1862; several members of Companies I and K deserted about the same time.
