The Arkansas in the Civil War Message Board

Commemoration of the Pivotal Role of DeValls Bluff

Update on DeValls Bluff: If you missed the celebration today, it will come again next year.
Everyone had a great time. The speakers were fantastic and in particular, Judge Jim Rhodes did an
outstanding presentation of the early history of DeValls Bluff. Grant Merrill, Mark Christ, and Vanessa
Norton McKuin were in attendance as well as part of the wonderful program.
The music itself, presented by Sharon Arnold, Curtis Arnold, Paul Fray and a lovely young lady from
Little Rock whose name escapes me, was amazing. It was on a professional level.
There was a chapel service led by Rev. Rick Meadows of Cabot, all of course in the period of the day.
Miss Ellen Lewis and 1st Sgt. Lewis, both professional re-enactors, did a stand out job with hers focusing on
women in the war, and his focus being on the flags.
I personally visited with folks from Missouri and Texas who were the descendants of a Union soldier that served
with the 8th Missouri who had died of cholera in the Union hospital there. Several outside events were held and
a room full of historic items were on display. Many of the locals were in period dress which simply added to the
event's charm.
Lunch was catered by Murry's and was quite tasty.
It was a pleasure to be in attendance.
See you next year.
