Capt. Samuel J. Herndon's company was from Lawrence County. It was mustered into service as Co. G, 14th (McCarver's) Arkansas Infantry, on August 31, 1861. The company later formed part of Co. G, 21st (McCarver's) Arkansas Infantry, after the reorganization of May 14, 1862.

When initially mustered into service, the company officers were:
