Verrrry Interesting.

It sounds like the situation at Camp Crystal Hill was very military indeed, with the description of how the Wall tents were to be arranged and Knapsacks packed. Far from the the disorganized camp life that we are accustomed to thinking about an Arkansas Confederate Camp being. I am sure that this order was universal to all other Camps at the time and not just unique to just this camp.

I am confused about one thing however. In the schedule of daily events you have 5 roll calls per day the last being at 8:00 pm with "Tattoo". Then at 9:30 pm you have "Taps". I was not aware that the Confederates had a call for "Taps" in 1862? I was under the impression that "Taps" was an invention of the Union Army, I believe accredited to Gen. Dan Butterfield in Virginia.

Is this the same "Taps" that we play today? Was it that popular that it became universal that quickly? Or was it something else?

I always was under the impression that "Tattoo" was the last bugle call of the day. Evidently not. Can somebody please explain?
