Picked up a good book on this
In Response To: Account of 2nd Newtonia ()

The book is Titled The Two Civil War Battles of Newtonia by Larry Wood. I got it at Barnes and Nobles of all places and it is an excellent book.

I live just 45 minutes from there so had to visit and photgraph the town and battle field after reading the book. Saw and toured the Richie house too.

As I understand it, and you more learned historians jump in here if I mispeak, the first Battle of Newtonia in September 1862 was the first in a series of small battles and manuvering that would result in the Battle of Prairie Grove.

The second Battle of Newtonia in 1864 was the last battle of Price's Missouri raid and was the battle that literally threw Price out of Missouri.

I recommend the book. It says it was published by the History Press
