Josh, just heard about it on monday this week and was looking for info when found your request. Baker Springs is in North Howard County about 10 miles West of Umpire and about a mile North of Hwy 278. At the time of the Civil War Baker Springs was a Spa/Resort and for what ever reason the two units met there and a small battle ensured. After the battle the Confederate casualties were buried on a hill overlooking the springs and the Union casualties were buried down near the creak. In recent times a local farmer supposedly used a tractor and pushed the Union markers into the creek. I would be interested in finding out more about this skirmish also.
