Re: Post war Military administration at Batesville

Unfortunately, the post war period until well after the Brooks Baxter War, is pretty much a black hole. There are a couple of books that give you the general backgroud, but I am not aware of any detailed accounts of operations during this period. A couple of books worth looking in to are"

A History of Souther Missouri and Northern Arkansas, Being an Account of the Early Settlements, the Civil War, and the Ku-Klux and Times of Peace, by William Monks, Edited by John F. Bradbury Jr. and Lou Wehmer, The University of Arkansas Press, Fayettville, 2003. This is a re-release of a much earlier work. William Monks was actually from Missouri, but can into Arkansas during the Powell Clayton adminstration and operated against the Klan in Northeast Arkansas. I believe he operated around Batesiville before moving futher south.

Another work is The aftermath of the civil war, in Arkansas (http://books.google.com/books/about/The_aftermath_of_the_civil_war_in_Arkans.html?id=_yUdAAAAMAAJ) by Governor Powell Clayton
