Waldron, Ark. was burned by Federal Troops?

Union forces burn Waldron, Arkansas upon evacuation. Really? I originally accepted this as fact, but have since begun to question the veracity of the claim. Does anyone know of any primary source written at the time or within a few years that verifies that Waldron was actually burned by union forces?

History of Scott County Arkansas states, "The Federals evacuated Waldron on Feb. 4 1864....When the Union forces evacuated Waldron, they set fire to every house in town except those at William G. Featherstone and Elijah Leming." (Page 39) But this was published in 1922 - nearly 60 years after the fact! Perhaps union troops burned a house or two, and then over the ensuing 6 decades the story evolved into the burning of every house in Waldron except two.

I searched the Civil War Official Records online via Cornell University, and although there were lots of scouting parties, skirmishes and the occupation of Waldron by the Federal troops, I didn't find anything referencing burning in Waldron. Moreover, some, if not most of the town of Waldron was burned during the decade after the war due to lawlessness and arson.

Perhaps someone has access to newspapers, correspondence, state legislative papers, memoirs etc. from the period that might mention this event.
Thanks.
