The Arkansas in the Civil War Message Board

New prewar book on Arkansas

Hey folks, I wanted to let everyone in on a project that I am working on these days. As the Editor of the Arkansas Toothpick website, I write a weekly column that is syndicated across Arkansas in many small newspapers. I have been writing these columns as far back as Feb., 2010 outlining what was going on in Arkansas that week 150 years ago, so it is a weekly chronology from 1860 and onward. I use mainly Arkansas newspapers for the early years and will begin using letters, telegraphs, diaries, etc. as the War progresses. The series is entitled: The Arkansas Civil War Sesq. Yearbook: Volume 1: 1860 Pre War Arkansas. To my knowledge, this is the only project of its kind and if anyone would like to become a contributor, let me know.

The 1860 volume is complete and I am rounding pictures up for inclusion in the first in the series. I know photographs from 1860 will be a miracle to find in Arkansas, but I am working on pictures of people and landmarks that would have been prominent or associated with 1860 Arkansas. I wanted to include the state's best historians on this project, so pardon me for asking, but does anyone have any suggestions of pictures you would like to see included in the 1860 or 1861 volume?

The project is to write a volume per year from 1860-1865.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Ron Kelley
