Human and economic impact of the war in Arkansas

I’m working on a text panel for the upcoming Old State House Museum's 2012 CW Sesquicentennial exhibit on the cost of the war in Arkansas. I'd like to pose these questions to anyone on the message board that might be able to assist:

1. Do you know where I can find out how many soldiers enlisted from Arkansas for both the Union and Confederacy?

2. Also what percent of the population enlisted? I recall that, in terms of population, Arkansas supplied a greater percentage of troops to the Confederacy than any other southern state; is that correct, or am I dreaming that up? I also recall somewhere that, with respect to states that seceded, only Tennessee provided more troops to the Union cause than Arkansas; is that correct?

3. How many casualties did Arkansas suffer during the war: both deaths and wounds?

4. Finally, what was the financial cost of the war on Arkansas? I also recall somewhere that Arkansas ranked in the top-ten states in the US in terms of economic wealth before the war and was last or next-to-last after the war. That may or may not be true. Is there a source for such data?

If there are any other aspects of the war’s impact on the state’s population and economy, please feel free to bring them to my attention.

Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

Bill
