Re: Surrender of the 10th Arkansas (Witt's Cav

Damon, the 3rd Arkansas which was stationed at Lewisburg had a couple of different scouts out after Witt in Feb. 1865. Witt's command was reported to have come through northern Conway Co. killing Jeff Williams, A Union man. On the 17th Col. Ryan of the 3rd Arkansas reported that one scout was back in from Clinton & Quitman with several prisoners, Witt having scattered. On Feb. 20th Ryan reported that another scout had returned after a skirmish with a portion of Witt's command at Miller's Ferry on the Little Red, once again Witt scattering his men. I have also ran across this reference to Witt's regt. being destroyed, somewhere, dont remeber where, but the above actions are the only ones mentioned by the Union army regarding Witt about that time.
