Confederate Provost Marshall Trials
My GGGrandfather was hanged for sedition (he refused to fight for the Confederacy) and in his final letter home he mentioned he was tried by a jury of 21. Since I only have a transcript, I can't verify the original (I don't know if it still exists or not). My first guess is the number 21 was a tranposition of the number 12 when the original was typed up. However, does anyone know how Provost Marshall trials were handled? Could it have been some sort of pseudo-military trial?
