John, You are right and Bailey's Memoirs are a great read, and valuable first hand account of the late war fighting in NW Arkansas. I grew up just about 3 miles from where Bailey's Parents Farm was located, [Carroll County back then, but Boone today ] and never had any idea of what life in that part of the state was like during the war. Still astonished when I read his account of being wounded at the farmstead skirmish, and the Federal Cavalryman, dry snapping his revolver twice, and finally pulling his carbine, to shoot Bailey on the ground !
