I haven't done much in-depth research on the 7th Arkansas yet, so I'll concede to any experts out there who may have a better handle on it than I do, but here's the information I have so far --
7th Arkansas Regiment Infantry: Original captains of companies.

Co. A—Capt. Joseph C. Martin, Randolph county.
Co. B—Capt. George E. Orme, "Glaize Rifles," Jackson county.
Co. C—Capt. James Archer, Marion county [see note].
Co. D—Capt. Carney C. Straughan, Lawrence county.
Co. E—Capt. John H. Dye, "Pike Guards," White county.
Co. F—Capt. Thomas J. Mellon, Randolph county.
Co. G—Capt. Ganum Brightwell, "Arkansas Guards," Independence county.
Co. H—Capt. D. G. Deason, Izard county.
Co. I—Capt. Michael V. Shaver, Fulton county.
Co. K—Capt. John C. McCauley, White county.

Note: Capt. James Archer, Co. C, resigned before the company was mustered into service and was succeeded by Capt. William M. Blackburn, whose date of rank was July 26, 1861, the date of muster.
