So I am still confused about the re-organization. Let me try this timeline:

April 22, 1862 , General Van Dorn orders an election of officers

April 25, 1862, Charles Adams is elected Colonel

May 27, 1862, The regiment was reorganized “for three years or the war” at Camp Priceville, near Tupelo, Mississippi. I am guessing that since the unit had not seen any signifigant combat at this time, Charles Adams is probably re-elected.

September 10, 1862, a reorganization of the field officers of the Regt was ordered by Gen Maury. None of the old officers were re-elected and were therefore discharged and have gone home to Ark to enter the service there.

The question would then be, why two reorganizations? Could the answer have something to do with the consolidation of the 23rd with the 12th and 14th Arkansas Regiments that Bryan is speaking of.
