TELEGRAPH TO THE HERALD
Destruction of Cotton and Sugar
on the Arkansas River by a Rebel Gunboat.

POCAHONTAS, ARK., June 5. A rebel gunboat came to Jacksonport day before yesterday and destroyed all the cotton and sugar there. She was reported to be on the way here, but we have since learned that she returned down the river, destroying all the cotton and sugar as she went. It is supposed that a very large amount of each has been destroyed. For a time there was much consternation in this vicinity and the troops were under marching orders all Tuesday night. Everything is quiet now.
