Very interesting. I never really considered where these men would have been buried. I grew up in this area and my Mom and Dad had a close friend who was raised in what they called the "mud house" in St Charles. From what I could determine it was an old log home that had been covered in some type of stucco. The house had been a hospital during the battle and was full of bullet holes. Also there was a blood stained door in the house that was supposed to have been used as a operating table. The house burned down I think in the early 1960s and I used to know where it stood. I think the new bridge is now resting on that site. Back in my day we rode the ferry across the White River. I've seen some photos of this house years ago. Has anyone else heard of the "mud house"?
