Curtis, You didn't say what your soldier's name was, I'm guessing here with the Thompson name, but a Pvt. T. Thompson of Co. A, 30th Arkansas died at Austin, Arkansas on Sept. 14, 1862. Measles and other diseases ran rampant in the fall of 1862, especially at Austin, Arkansas (Camp Nelson). The number of dead from these diseases is said to be + or - 1500 at Camp Nelson near Austin, Arkansas. If this is not your man, he still may be one of the thousands that died of disease at Camp Nelson or the Little Rock area.
