11/10/61 HQs, Pocahontas, Col Borland cdg to Gen Polk-… I have stopped here in passing and retain for the present Captain Roberts' company, about 60 men, nominally artillery, but without a battery, but armed and pretty well drilled as infantry, and about 150 recruits for the army, brought here by Major McCray and Captains White and Kykendall, and retained here by me, as is Captain Roberts' company; altogether about 1,286 men

Co A of McCray’s Bn was referred to as Co A of McCarver’s Bn when it organized on 1/1/62. It returned to McCray’s Bn on 5/10/62 as Morgan’s Co A

I. In pursuance of the provisions of an act of the Confederate Congress, entitled "An act to further provide for the public defense," all Regts, Bns, squadrons, and Co’s of twelve-months; volunteers of this army will proceed to organize by electing their proper Co and field officers. This election the several Bgde cdrs will cause to be held within their respective Bgdes at 12 meridian on the 8th instant, except in Regts or Bns on picket or outpost service, which will hold elections as soon as relieved.

The 31st and 25th Ark were temporarily consolidated

9/1/63 The 31st Ark consolidated with 4th Ark [The author came to this conclusion regarding the consolidation confusion. His conclusion was based on Col Bunn’s letter and personal papers of the men. See also: Diary of Thomas R Stone]
