Report of Lieutenant Colonel William C. Adams, Thirty-eighth Arkansas (Confederate), on the Battle of Prairie Grove, Arkansas, December 7, 1862.

HEADQUARTERS, SHAVER'S REGIMENT,

December 11, 1862.
SIR: I have the honor to submit the following as a report of the part performed by this regiment in the recent battle of Prairie Grove. This regiment, numbering 140 men, was posted at Prairie Grove Church to support Captain [Westley] Roberts' Battery. The enemy not approaching in that direction I was soon ordered to go to the assistance of Colonel [Joseph Orville] Shelby, who was then engaging the enemy on the right wing near ______ house. Before reaching him I was informed the enemy had captured Captain [William D.] Blocher's Battery of Shelby's command. Hurrying my men to his assistance I arrived in time to assist in recapturing Captain Blocher's Battery, then pursuing the enemy through an open field to ______ house, where I was, and this command engaged there the remainder of the day.

I take pleasure in saying that the officers and men of this regiment performed their duties well. The following is a list killed, wounded, and missing of this regiment. [Recapitulation shows 5 killed, 25 wounded, 22 missing.]
