FEDERAL REPORTS FROM ARKANSAS.
The St Louis republican of the 9th has some intelligence from Arkansas. Its dates are from White river to the 6.h, and although received through Federal channels, are not very encouraging to that cause. One dispatch says:
Col. Fitch, having been reinforced, proceeded sixty-five miles above St. Charles, when hearing that the enemy were 8.000 strong, he fell back to St. Charles to await further reinforcements.
Nothing is known of General Curtis. Scouts sent out failed to find him. He is supposed to be making his way to the Mississippi.
Another, dated Cairo, says:
The news from White river, Ark., is not encouraging. Col. Fitch still holds St. Charles. No relief has yet reached Gen. Curtis.
The whole country bordering on White river is in arms, except those who are flying from conscription, which is enforced in the most vigorous manner. Boats are frequently fired on from the shore.
Another says:
Col. Fitch still holds St Charles.
Gen. Curtis' army has not yet been relieved, and they are now on half rations.
Guerrilla bands invest the shores of White river, and frequently fire into passing boats.
The boats sent up to the relief of Gen. Curtis went up the river as far as Clarendon.
