Typically in that part of Arkansas I always think of a cedar "barrens". Cedars grow in many places where there is little to no soil (cliffs, bluffs and rocky outcrops) ie in "barren" palces. In some places in N Arkansas rock outcrops are a solid part of the ground and in many cases have cedar thickets all over them. I can think of one between Calico Rock and Mt Home that is what I call a cedar barrens. But it could be something else.
