Capt. Lafayette Roberts

In reading a "A Missouri Boy's Experiences" from an article in the Confederate Veteran Magazine, a man name Samuel Bayless Williams from Dade County Mo.wrote: "At Canehill we encountered the 'Pin Indians.' There we lost our Captain Lafayette Roberts. They ambushed us, and as they had the advantage of us, we abandoned the field." He mentions that this skirmish happened in the fall of 1863. I can't find a reference to this fight in the OR's and the I. H. G. records don't indicate anything, at least in the area Bayless described. Furthermore, I don't think this Captain Lafayette Roberts was a Missourian. Any input would be helpful.
