An eyewitness account of the capture of these steamboats is in a new book I co-edited: "Two Years Before the Paddlewheel: Charles F. Gunther, Mississippi River Confederate." (State House Press of Texas, 2102) Gunther, an Illinoisan, was delighted to be captured, and returned north immediately.
