The regiment was organized in September of 1862 with men from Yell, Izard, Lawrence and Craighead counties. It was assigned to R. G. Shaver's, Tappan's brigade, Trans-Mississippi Department. It fought at Prairie Grove [7 Dec. '62] and in the spring of 1864 was united with the 27th Ark. Infantry Rgt. At Jenkins' Ferry the consolidated command lost four killed and 22 wounded. In January 1865 the regiment was ordered to Louisiana but apparently disbanded.

Note: He must have been dropped from the rolls sometime during the year 1863 as his name does not appear on the next bi-monthly muster roll of Jan/Feb, 1864. He could have been dropped for illness, disability, discharge, capture, transfer, desertion, death, etc.
"My Company marched from Delhi, La. to Little Rock Ark., leaving Delhi, 4th Aug. Arrived at Little Rock 22nd Aug. 1863 birilles [sp?] a great deal of marching in the Mississippi Swamps in the month of July"

Jeff Thompson, paroled at Jacksonport, Arkansas, June 5, 1865, enlisted Lawrence County, Ark., age 24, hazel eyes, dark hair, dark complexion, 5' 11", born in Kentucky
