Well I can't find Winfield S Cunningham or Wasson on any rolls yet, BUT...I did find L. Cunningham who was surrendered at end of the war at Jacksonport as part of Co C 45 Arkansas Mounted Infantry/Cavalry. He was aged 36 in 1865, 6' tall, hazel eyes, dark hair and dark complexion and born in VA. He is listed as enlisting in Lawrence County, AR.. so here the stepfather is. Captain Wann is the commander of this company...so looks like if the stepson joined it must have been this unit but there is no record of him on their rolls. Could someone have got the stepson and father confused?? THere is a J H Wasson in Co F of this unit aged 19 possibly a brother of W. S?? Winfield would have been about 10-12 in 1860 based on the 1860 and 70 census so he could have served easily and there be no paperwork. Issac is listed in pension records as dying on 2/12/1863 and served in Co B 38th Arkansas Infantry and there is a J B Wasson in this company as well. Still no Winfield S of either name.
