Well the first mention is that of anvil artillery....then the final was that they brought the artillery out again...do you think they were practicing what many folks in rural Ark did even into recent history as firing "anvils" where they packed holes with gunpowder and then saw how high they could blow the anvils in the air? It makes a very loud report I am sure, from what Ihave heard. This was a common event up in the hills so wonder if this was what was going on? At that point there shouldn't have been many cannon dispersed throughout the state and "most" militia companies were not artillery but then the article doesn't mention the militia unit by name so hard to tell. Someone out there may have info on it, but this is my best guess based on the term "anvil artillery"
