Sorry Alan, but last week and this week real busy, working on two events and this coming Saturday's Camp Nelson exhibit. Yes I finally saw your post and thanks a lot. The reason for my query about the Louisiana soldier or soldiers, maybe being at Camp Nelson is this. About twenty years ago I did a taped interview with elderly man on his farm at Camp Nelson. In farming the ground some fifty plus years ago he had picked up numerous Camp Nelson artifacts in the plowed ground. Most of which were dropped round balls, but he had something that caught my eye. He had found a Louisiana Pelican button in his garden, at the time I thought the 90 year old was mistaken, but now I'm not so sure. Before he died he sold part of the farm to a neighbor. I talked to the neighbor recently and they were given his collection before he died, it consisted of some arrowheads, his Camp Nelson artifacts, and his archive (a scrapbook of articles on Camp Nelson). He was sure proud of it. The neighbor is looking for the button again. I need a picture and try to determine what variant of Pelican button it is. There are so many. The question is how did a Louisiana Pelican button find it way to Camp Nelson. Also a number of years ago a Waco Guards button was found in a lady's flower bed, that one I've figured out.
I'm finishing a Sesquicentennial Project 1863-2013, this week and hope to have it at Camp Nelson this Saturday. And again thanks Alan, for your help and interest.
