Re: For Bryan Howerton, re: Poinsett County

The Arkansas Military Department Records, List of Commissioned Officers in State Militia 1827–1862, Microfilm Roll 00000038-8, Page 253, contains a list of commissions issued to volunteer militia companies raised in the 14th Regiment, Arkansas State Militia:

"Harrisburg Riflemen" Captain Granville F. Smith June 3, 1861 (Co. F, 5th Ark)

"Harrisburg Vindicators" Captain Benjamin Harris August 1, 1861 (Co. C, 13th Ark)

"Volunteer Company" Captain James Shearer August 6, 1861 (Possibily later Co. B, 13th Ark)

For some reason, most of the volunteer companies that comprised the 13th Arkansas are listed in the 14th Militia Regiment. I assume this was a transcription error and I know some of these companies, such as the Tappan Guards, actually originated in other militia regiments. Colonel Tappan, Lieutenant Colonel Grayson and Major McNeely's commissions are also errounously recorded in the Militia List for Poinsett County.

Col. Robert H. Baird, commanded the 14th Militia Regiment
