“Jacksonport in the Civil War and the Gunboat Maurepas”
With Donna Bentley

Join us Tuesday when Donna Bentley brings us an exciting program on the Confederate Gunboat Maurepas. Purchased in 1861, the Maurepas patrolled the lower Mississippi River before being transferred to accompany the CSS Pontchartrain along the White River in Arkansas. Bentley will review the history and action that the Maurepas saw in the Civil War, including the shelling of Jacksonport.

Bentley is the interpreter at the Jacksonport State Park, joining the staff in 1995. She is a graduate of Western Michigan University. For 14 years Bentley was a Park Ranger for the National Park Service. She has served at the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Mount Rushmore, Jewel Cave National Monument in the Black Hills, and the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial in St. Louis, among others.

Thanks to Brian Brown with his talk last month on Shiloh. We hope to see you Tuesday with Donna Bentley.

Bring a few extra dollars as we will raffle off one of our books. Membership dues are still just $20!
