The Arkansas in the Civil War Message Board

Dr. George Lankford, 4/8/14, GPCWRT meet, Lonoke

Grand Prairie Civil War Roundtable, Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at 7:00 P.M. at the Lonoke County Museum in downtown Lonoke,
one block directly east of the stoplight on what is called Front Street/Hwy 70.

Join us Tuesday, April 8, beginning at 7:00 when Dr. George E. Lankford brings our program at the Lonoke County Museum in downtown Lonoke. Lankford received his B.A. in Journalism from Louisiana State University, a B.D. in Theology from Princeton Theological Seminary, and his Ph. D. in Folklore from Indiana University in 1975. Lankford is a current member of the Arkansas Civil War Sesquicentennial Commission, Past President of the Independence County Historical Society, and Professor Emeritus at Lyon College in Batesville.

Lankford will discuss the issue of slavery. His material will be based on his research on his recent book published by The University of Arkansas Press in 2006: Bearing Witness: Memories of Arkansas Slavery: Narratives from the 1930’s WPA Collection.

He has written the script for two dinner theater productions: War Chronicles I, Independence County’s War, and War Chronicles II. These were performed at the University of Arkansas Community College in Batesville earlier in the Sesquicentennial of the Civil War. Local talent portrayed personalities of the residents of Independence County and the productions were very well received.

Everyone is welcome and as always, there is no admission charge. Come out to hear Dr. Lankford and learn some of our
nation's interesting history. Phone 501-676-6750 if you need more information. Y'all come!
