While some parts are still murky I've found enough to verify William Murphy Loudermilk as a genuine civil war veteran. More importantly a Virginia archivist working on my enquiry found a crucial piece of information that verifies Thomas Evans Riddle's claims. Inspired I found a second piece of primary source documentation that also verifies his claim. These tie in with a third, his record of being born in 1846.
