I have a 1863 Springfield musket converted to smooth bore with the rear sight removed and welded over. The front sight is in tact. The stock is in tact and has an Indian Head Penny inlayed in butt. I assume that soldier US owe CSA took it home and converted it to a more useful firearm around the home place .
