Do you know the reason for Burleson's relief? From the content of the Telegraphs, it would appear that he had expressed what Hindman considered and inappropriate fear of being surrounded and cut off. Not entirely unreasonable given that he had one of the very few somewhat organized Arkansas Commands attempting to oppose Curtis as he moved south toward Little Rock. I wonder if Burleson was even aware of the Texas units that Hindman was scraping together to help in this effort?
Was Matlock always the intended commander for this unit, or was Burleson intended to be the commander until he was relieved?
