What I have not determined is how he gets to the strength reports for April 14, 1865 as 598 when it arrived at Marshall, Texas, and 587 on 26 May 1865 when the regiment surrendered.

He references the Compiled Service Records of Confederate Soldiers who served in Organizations from the State of Arkansas , 36th Infantry. Microfilm Series #317, Roll 226-229.

I assume that he is somehow calculating this figure based on information contained in the CSR.
