I think I may have found our man from 30th/25th Ark Inf that was the flag bearer who dropped the flag. The problem is that many of the men of the 30th/25th wind up in the 30th (McNeil and Hart) that is a Trans Miss regiment. They are erroneously listed in the fold3 records as well as the Gerdes files. However, as with other units numbered the same, creates some confusion. McNeil/Hart/Rogan's 30th Ark never went east of the Mississippi but served entirely in TM. The other 30th was redesignated the 25th after battle of Murfreesboro. This left all units east of Miss River being 1st-25th while all those west were 26th-and on.

I first found the original casualty report for the 30th at Murfreesboro. Thought I was on to something as the only man listed as wounded severely in the hand was E. G. Edwards a corporal. But then at the very end is the listing for Co K and an H. J. Carlile who was the Ensign! He was listed as wounded ad missing. So more than likely he died as he is not listed at any time later in any regiment. So with that info I think we have the man, unless theis Cpl Edwards might have been in the color company and maybe picked up colors after Carlile went down, and he in turn had the sever wound to the hand. Either way, I believe it most likely Carlile but not ruling out Edwards.
