The people in and around Des Arc began preparing for the war earlier than most towns in Arkansas. They had formed a "Vigilance Committee" at least as early as 1859, and had two or three volunteer companies ready for service by the time Arkansas seceded.
I'm about ready to give up on chemotherapy and let nature take its course. I'm going to go ahead with one more round of three treatments, and see how it goes, but I don't think I can take another week like I had last week.
I'm still plugging away at getting my files ready to turn over to Brian Robertson at the Butler Center when the time comes.
