Jacob L Stroope states in his prisoner statement that he enlisted on 27 July 8161 by Col MCrea (sic) (perhaps he means Capt Dandridge McRae) in Benton County, Ark and that he fought at the battle of Oak Hills.

I cannot find him listed on Edward G. Gerdes "Civil War Home Page" except for his final service in Witherspoon's Cavalry Battalion.

Do you have any record of the unit he served in at Oak Hills?
