Pvt. Alexander Newman, Co. H, 1st (Dobbins') Regiment Arkansas Cavalry, was captured near Helena in Phillips County, Arkansas, on February 7, 1864. He entered the Military Prison at Alton, Illinois, on February 22, 1864. He was transferred to Fort Delaware, where he died on July 1, 1864, due to erysipelas. He was interred "on the Jersey shore", which is today the Finn's Point National Cemetery, Salem, New Jersey.
