1/16/63 medical statement-incapable of infantry duty due to problems in lower spine
1/30/63 Senate floor-Senator presents recommendations from Gen'ls Jackson and Ewell for Crandall as cavalry officer
2/16/63 Sec of War to AG-give a commission under the late law to Capt Crandall as Maj to raise a cavalry Bn in the counties of Mo named [Platte, Clinton, etc] in enclosed letter from Gen Clark
2/17 Order issued as per above and to report to Gen Price
3/10/63 Gen Lee to AG wanting to know if Lee Crandall [Capt 8th La] has been made a Maj under Gen S Price's command
3/13/63 Cooper to Lee-In reply to your inquiry of the 10th regarding Capt Crandall, he rec'd a commission as Maj to raise a Bn of Cav in Mo under the act of congress of 10/11/62. The nomination is now before the senate
4/3/63 Price’s Div-ordering Capt Hewitt to report to Little Rock- Capt Hewitt has this day reported for duty & is ordered to await the arrival of Maj Crandall [ Capt E Hewitt is later Adjt of Crandall’s Regt, 47th Ark.]

6/30/64 Shelby to McCray cdg Bgde-you can proceed to the Miss after the arms you mentioned in yours of the 29th, placing Lt Col Love] in charge of the troops left at Jacksonport while you are gone. Maj Crandall has returned from Shreveport and passed through the neighborhood without calling to see me; he will do to watch.
