I was just looking at the Encyclopedia of Arkansas History and Culture article on Colonel Gantt and it says "The regiment’s first military action occurred in November 1861 at the Battle of Belmont". My understanding is that the 12th was part of the nearby Garrison at Columbus, but I don't believe they were engaged at Belmont. The only Arkansas unit I am tracking as being engaged at Belmont is the 13th Arkansas under Tappan?
