It is my impression that the Springfield Rifles issued to the 1st Arkansas in Virginia were from Virginia stores, but that when the 1st Arkansas return west the weapons were returned to Virginia.

My guess that the 1st Arkansas were most likely armed at Shiloh with the 1841 Mississippi .54 cal Rifle. A quick calculation of 29,000 rounds of ammunition would only provide 40 rounds for 725 men. One cartridge box full.
