I hope I can shed some light on Coleman's Regiment and officer confusion. W.O. Coleman Orginally was commander of the 4th Missouri State Guard. He formed a Partisan Ranger Regiment using several members of the old 4th and recruited several companies in Arkansas. Captain Wiley C Jones was commander of Company E. He was engaged in a skirmish at Smithville, Arkansas on June 17 1862. Captain Jones and several of his men were captured. Coleman's, Crabtree's, and Freeman's Regiments operated in the area harassing Union troops and trying to keep confederate supplies moving. Prior to Price's Raid, the Force was reorganized and Captain Jones Company was transferred to the 45th. Elements of Crabtree's and Coleman's were consolidated to form the 46th Arkansas. Then as previously posted, yet a third Coleman's Regiment was formed. Researching the regiment and keeping the rosters straight is highly confusing and the dates are critical in sorting this out.
