Thank you so much for this information. I could not find what his wound was for Chickamauga. He was wounded three times, the first being at Murfreesboro. I have a letter where he talks about being wounded in the neck at Murfreesboro . He said if it had gone an inch over, he would have been dead. Tells Laura not to worry that he is doing well in the hospital.

I have gotten goose bumps reading your messages. I never thought I would find anyone related. I live in Oklahoma. Been to Des Arc a few times. Chapel Hill is just a small area close by where the family is all buried. Fannie was my grandmother's mother, and I remember when I was very small that Fannie visited my grandmother. I remember seeing Fannie sitting in the living room chair. She had white hair pulled on top of her head in a bun and she looked very old.

From Francis' letters, I have followed his whole time in the war--places, commanders, battles, weather, people. He and I suppose Newt fought in every major battle. I am reading a book about the Sieige of Vicksburg and then I read Francis' letter where he talks about how they were on their way to Vicksburg, camped about 20 miles from Jackson and they found out they were too late. He said in another letter that they marched 500 miles. And in the history book it states they did actually march 500 miles.
