Original source http://mdh.contentdm.oclc.org/cdm/compoundobject/collection/mack/id/11175/rec/1 (page 10 / image 10 of 325, last rows)
The text reads:
----------------------------
Little Rock June 5th 1862
Col D. [David] C. Cross, Memphis,
There is a large quauntity [quantity] of 75 or 80 reams of cartridge paper in avalanehe office - perhaps more in other offices get it all and send to me as soon as possible
T.C. Hindman Maj Genl
----------------------------
I believe the original word is "avalanche". I might be wrong, but it really looks like that. The third letter might be a "u", but "avulanche" does not make much sense.
Now I am REALLY curious. Was there an "avalanche office" in Memphis?
