Capt. McFarland

Gentlemen: I am researching a battle fought at Race Track Hollow for the Alpena Historical Society (Carrollton, Arkansas). Goodspeed list this as a skirmish whereby Capt. George Gaddy (Union) fought and defeated Captain McFarland (Confederate) in April of 1864. There are several references to it but all seem to be quotes from Goodspeed. On the other hand there is a reference (War of the Rebellion, Series 1, Vol. 22) to a battle fought at virtually the same place in April of 1863. In this case a Captain [John T.] Worthington and Lieutenant [Joseph S.] Robb fought Captain MacFarlane, defeating McFarlane. Is this the same battle? Are MacFarlane and McFarland the same? I can find no reference to either of them other than what I showed above. Gaddy shows up in the Home Guard, it occurs to me the Confederates may be Home Guard as well. Is there a roll of Home Guard I can check? Thanks in advance for your assistance.
