Humm. I checked out Slemons and the 2 Ark Cav. They were east of the Mississippi all right, but on the Red River, south of the Ouachita Mountains. They were at the battle of Mount Elba on March 27th, (29th?) 1964, Poison Springs on April 18th, Marks' Mill on April 25th and Jenkins Ferry on April 30th. Therefore, we can just about ruie out MacFarlane/McFarland being a member of this unit. Thank for the info. but, like the data I am recovering, nothing is matching up. This still leaves Capt. Gaddy and the Home Guards in question. Was MacFarlane/McFarland Home Guard? Well, note that Gaddy was Union and MacFarlane/McFarland was Confederate. This is why I am currently looking for some list of Confederate Home Guard units.
